Spitting Panther
This is the correct orientation of this spitting panther located on the ceiling of the FB anex. Its arched back, bristling tail and extended claws identify this as a fierce mountain lion (panther). The red lines emanating from its mouth most likely represent its roar. Notice in all these pictographs that panthers or cats are not represented as prey or have they been speared as other animals esp. deer. Notice also the concept of duality that is prominent in the Pecos River style as represented by the bisected red and blank body. This likely represents the partial passage to the other world. This is also common at the Panther shelter and the Ingram Ranch, ref. Rock Art Foundation Spitting panthers are also found in several other shelters.
